Inspiration & The Story

As an artist, I've always romanticised life. I've always found beauty even in the darkness, a poetic edge to every sword. I have rose-tinted glasses on and I'm never taking them off.

This series is documentary-style, polaroid-inspired paintings which make up a greater story when put together. The concept is letting a memory transport you to a different place and time, the paintings will act as portals into the story. The Rose Tinted Glasses series was initially inspired by the nostalgia of polaroid pictures and the sentiment they hold. The main theme of this art collection is the shared experience of seeking connection. The romance, the longing, the heartbreak, the nostalgia and the everything I should have saids. The many late nights spent crying into your pillow, the long chats with your friends and the heart racing "What shall I reply?" Love can be elusive and catch you off guard, it can linger or disappear over time. Love makes the rules.

CHAPTER ONE: PART ONE

Innocence of The Heart

A burnt-out polaroid, bringing colour to an otherwise monochromatic painting. I wanted to represent nostalgia in this painting, a longing for the innocence we had when we look back over time.

CHAPTER ONE: PART TWO

Lavender

The purity and comforts of my childhood, an innocence and love for the beauty in the ordinary. The smell of lavender and a cup of  'you & me' as my grandar would call tea. The people, places, experiences which taught me love, belonging and being present.

CHAPTER TWO: PART ONE

Head in The Clouds

Often going through life with my head in the clouds and daydreaming, this idea came from a place of truth. Making up scenarios and creating my own reality has been essential to my creative process. Having the cloud isolated by a solid black background represents the disconnect to the rest of the world.

CHAPTER TWO: PART TWO

The Crush

The crush was inspired by a sense of nostalgia from when I first met Loui. There's no better feeling than having a crush, the imagining of what could be and the hypothetical what if's.

CHAPTER THREE: PART ONE

The Search

Growing up, I would listen to The 1975 religiously and certain songs really stuck with me. Somebody Else was my go to song when I felt a little lonely. I really wanted to show the experience I had as a teen, seeking connection through my phone while laying alone in my bed.

CHAPTER THREE: PART TWO

Ache For Love

I decided to create this painting as my first self-portrait, inspired by the ache I felt growing up, of having so much love to give but no one to give it to. As a teen, I would fantasize about finding the one, what he would look like and what music we would listen to.

Luckily for me, he showed up when I was 19.

CHAPTER FOUR: PART ONE

Drive Me Home

There's something hopelessly romantic about late-night drives, the moon and the darkness create this ambience of curiosity. It's hard to explain but the way the street lamps pass as flickers of light of what could be. The music playing in the background to meaningless chat and prolonged laughter. You can feel the tension and something in the air.

CHAPTER FOUR: PART TWO

Tunnel Vision

This piece is inspired by the situations where you want to see nothing but the best in someone, you put on the blinkers and just look to what you see ahead instead of the bigger picture.
